Welcome

The 2nd Intelligence and National Security Conference is the product of year-long a collaborative effort by the Intelligence and National Security Studies (INSS) and the Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) programs at Coastal Carolina University (CCU). It focuses on the themes of women and careers in intelligence and national security, which it views as interrelated.

In a perilous world, the need to staff intelligence and security institutions with those capable of protecting our country and its population is unquestionable. Equally unquestionable is the need to ensure that these institutions reflect the ideals of justice and equality, which our nation strives to embody. It follows that a central objective of educators in the intelligence and national security fields should be to produce future leaders who value and celebrate diversity. This conference aims to do just that: promote the view of inclusion and diversity in the intelligence and national security workforce as organizational strengths and moral imperatives.

The conference organizers wish to thank the sponsors whose generosity made this event possible: the Quality Enhancement Plan Committee at CCU, the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, and University College at Coastal Carolina University. We also wish to thank Women in Philanthropy and Leadership and Mrs. Terri DeCenzo for co-sponsoring this event.
